The presentation analyses how the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken to fight off the epidemic affected the everyday life and operation of the political parties in Hungary, with special emphasis on those provisions which directly influenced their financial opportunities. For this aim after a brief overview of the legal responses to the pandemic the presentation summarizes the already existing legislative framework of political finance in Hungary and reminds of the known shortcomings of this system, considering recommendations from international organizations and national NGOs. The presentation analyses the new provisions on party finance and based on empirical research – data collected from representatives of the political parties by questionnaires – explores the effects of the pandemic on the Hungarian political finance system.
