for the 

2014 Pro Dissertatione Iuridica Excellentissima Award for

Best Doctoral Dissertation in Legal Studies

by the

Institute for Legal Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’

Centre for Social Sciences

 

The Institute for Legal Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ Centre for Social Sciences invites submissions for the biannual competition for the best doctoral dissertation in legal studies.

Based on the novelty of the topic, the soundness of the reasoning and the methodology, the depth of the literature review, and the social or academic significance of the research, the winner will be chosen by a selection committee appointed by the director of the Institute for Legal Studies.

The winner will receive an offer to publish the dissertation in a book series published by the Institute for Legal Studies and Opten Ltd. Award announcements will be made during November as part of the festivities of the annual Hungarian Science Day within the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and will include an inaugural lecture by the winner.

Eligibility:

1.     A dissertation in legal studies completed in any PhD programme in a Hungarian University is eligible;

2.     The dissertation must be written in English, French, German or Hungarian;

3.     The dissertation must have been defended between 15 September 2012 and 15 September 2014.

Applications need to be submitted via email by 30 September 2014 to argyelan.zsuzsa@tk.mta.hu.

Applicants need to submit the following:

  1. The dissertation in either PDF or MS Word format;
  2. The thesis-booklet (summary) of the dissertation (if this is part of the doctoral defence procedure);
  3. The written opinions submitted by opponents or other defence committee members (if this is part of the doctoral defence procedure);
  4. The applicant’s formal written response to these opinions (if this is part of the doctoral defence procedure);
  5. A copy of the doctoral certificate or official documentation of the successful defence.

In addition, three printed copies of the dissertation need to be submitted to the Director of the Institute for Legal Studies at the following address by the same deadline:

Researchers who are currently employed as public servants by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ Centre for Social Sciences, or who have been employed in this capacity within the last 3 years, are not eligible to apply.
